Itikaf is a form of worship. It is formed by staying in a Mosque for a certain time. It is Ehtiyat that one should stay with the intention to worship Allah by praying formal or informal prayers although prayer is not a condition therein.

The time for this form of worship could be anytime when one is allowed to fast. The best time is the month of Ramadan, especially, the last ten days.

Conditions for I'tikaf during Ramadhan:

1. Intention as in the rest of the worship acts. It is necessary that the intention be made at the beginning of Itikaf so that the rule, requiring the worship act to be completed with intention, be followed thoroughly from the beginning to the end. The decision made at the beginning of the night to start Itikaf from the beginning of the following day will be open to objection. However, if one decides to start it from the beginning of the night it is not an offense to do so.

One is not allowed to change one's mind from one Itikaf to another of the same qualities or different.

2. Belief in Islam.

3. Freedom from mental illness.

4. Fasting; thus the Itikaf of one who cannot fast for some reason is not valid.

5. Duration; which is three continuous days at least. It could be more but not less than three days.

If it is started from the beginning of a day the two nights in between will be part of the duration. Less than three days is not considered Itikaf.

That it must take place in one of these Mosques: (a) The holy Mosque in Makkah, (b) the holy Mosque of the Prophet in Medina, (c) the holy Mosque of Kufa, (d) the holy Mosque of Basrah, and (e) the Mosque which is assigned for the Friday prayer in any town or city. It is Ehtiyat, however, to complete it in any of the first four Mosques.

The roof and basement of a Mosque is part of the same and it is valid to complete Etikaf in such places of a Mosque.

Permission of the people whose permission are required such as the master for the slave, husband and parents for the wife and children if this will be against the right of the husband or causes trouble to the parents.

6. Completing it in the Mosque where it was started. Thus, going out of the Mosque without an acceptable reason will invalidate the Itikaf, regardless, one knows the rule or is ignorant or has gone out because of forgetfulness, except in the case of an emergency or one being forced or it is because of some need such as using wash room or having Taharat.

One is allowed to come out of the Mosque during Itikaf to take part in the burial of a deceased or to visit an ailing one; Going out of the Mosque for a time long enough to cause the Itikaf to become as non-existing will be considered as invalidating the same, even if one has not done it out of one's own choice.

If one needs to have Ghusl/bath during the Itikaf and it is possible for him to have it inside the Mosque, and is not allowed to go out unless the reason for Ghusl requires him not to stay inside the Mosque.

Etikaf is originally an optional worship act but it may become obligatory because of a vow etc.

Things to avoid during Itikaf:

1. Having sex and also according to Ehtiyat kissing or playing with one's wife;

2. According to a necessary Ehtiyat causing a semen discharge,

3. And smelling perfumes for enjoyment; it is not an offense if one cannot enjoy the perfume because of some defect in his smelling ability.

4. Selling or buying in the form of a business deal, according to a necessary Ehtiyat; there is no offense to be occupied with allowable activities as sewing or writing etc., although it is a Mustahab Ehtiyat to avoid them too.

If one needs to buy something for food and there is no one to do the buying for him, it is not an offence for him to do it.

5. Expressing bitterness in talking about worldly or religious matters in order to prove one's ability, not the truth which is one of the best worships.

The contracts of buying or selling during Itikaf invalidate Itikaf, but such contracts will be valid.

If Itikaf is invalidated because of having sex even, during the night, expiation will be due; if it is invalidated by other things, there will be no expiation, although it is a Mustahab Ehtiyat in this case too.

The expiation for invalidating an Itikaf is to set free a slave or if this is not possible, fast for two consecutive months or if this also is not possible, feed sixty poor people.

Surah Saba' ayat 51-54 : 52. And they will say (in the Hereafter): "We do believe (now)

The Non believers wishes to return to this worldly life

34. Surah Saba' (Sheba)

In the Name of Allah, The Most Gracious, Most Merciful

51. And if you could but see, when they will be terrified with no escape (for them), and they will be seized from a near place.

52. And they will say (in the Hereafter): "We do believe (now);" but how could they receive (Faith and the acceptance of their repentance by Allah) from a place so far off (i.e. to return to the worldly life again).

53. Indeed they did disbelieve (in the Oneness of Allah, Islam, the Qur'an and Muhammad ) before (in this world), and they (used to) conjecture about the unseen [i.e. the Hereafter, Hell, Paradise, Resurrection and the Promise of Allah, etc. (by saying) all that is untrue], from a far place.

54. And a barrier will be set between them and that which they desire [i.e. At-Taubah (turning to Allah in repentance) and the accepting of Faith etc.], as was done in the past with the people of their kind. Verily, they have been in grave doubt.

Read Quran Surah Mu'minun 23:99. Until, when death comes to one of them (those who join partners with Allah), he says: "My Lord! Send me back

Surah Al-Mu'minun (The Believers)

In the Name of Allah, The Most Gracious, Most Merciful

99. Until, when death comes to one of them (those who join partners with Allah), he says: "My Lord! Send me back,

100. "So that I may do good in that which I have left behind!" No! It is but a word that he speaks, and behind them is Barzakh (a barrier) until the Day when they will be resurrected.

Verses 99-100

99. "Until, when death conies unto one of them, he says: 'My Lord! Send me back again,"

100. "That I might do righteousness in that which I have left behind!' Nay! It is but a(mere) word that he says; and, behind them, is a partition until the Day when they shall be raised up."

Commentary:

One day the deviant will awaken and ask to be returned to the world, but his request cannot be fulfilled.

The former verses spoke about the stubbornness of pagans and sinners in their wrong way. These verses depict the painful state of the unbelievers when they are on the threshold of death. They continue their wrong way in the world until when death comes to them, as the verse says:

"Until, when death comes unto one of them, ..."

At the time when they are about to depart this world and enter the afterlife, the curtains of conceit and ignorance will be lifted from before their eyes and they will see the terrible fate ahead of them. They will observe the lives they had led, the potentialities they had stifled, the duties they had neglected, and the dreadful consequences of the sins they had committed. And at this time, such a person will cry out and:

"... he says: 'My Lord! Send me back again,"

Then, in the next verse, he continues saying:

"That I might do righteousness in that which I have left behind!' ..."

But since the law of divine creation does not allow anyone, whether righteous or wrongdoer, to return, the answer to him will be:

"... Nay! It is but a (mere) word that he says; ..."

These are only words without thinking and sincerity. This is what many wrongdoers usually say when they are about to be punished and what every murderer says when his eyes fall upon the gallows, but when the impending disaster is removed, the guilty again continue along their previous paths.

This is similar to what we read in verse 28 of Sura Al-'An'am, No. 6: "... And even if they were returned they would revert to that which they were prohibited ..."

Finally, the verse briefly and expressively refers to the mysterious intermediate world, the 'Barzakh', and says:

"... and, behind them, is a partition until the Day when they shall be raised up."

59 countries will send representatives to Egypt’s 18th international Quran competition, the event’s director said. Speaking at a press conference yesterday, August 9, at the Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Ministry in Cairo, Abdul Qadir Sarhan said the competition would kick off on the 18th day of the holy month of Ramadan.

Winners of the first stage, which had started on August 28, were also announced yesterday.

Usama As-Samr Al-Faturi from Libya, Abdullah Samara Suleyman from Egypt and At-Tifl Saeedun Nabiyullah Muhammad Jan from Tajikistan were announced as winners in the category of memorization, Tarteel and Tajweed recitation of the entire Quran.

The competition’s closing ceremony will be held on Sunday, September 5. Winners of the five categories will be awarded at the function, which is to be attended by Egypt’s president.

Each year during Ramadan, 110 of the best young students from over 70 countries across the Islamic world converge on Cairo for one of the Islamic world’s most prestigious contests – Egypt’s International Holy Koran Competition.

The film also addresses the captivating sound of the Qur’an recitation. An expert on the matter, Kristina Nelson, a musicologist, talks about the important effects and meaning of Qur’an recitation even to those who might not understand what they are saying. Nelson is the author of the book ‘The Art of Reciting the Qu’ran’.

And we see a live example of what Nelson is talking about when we hear Nabiollah reciting. The judges are so taken by his voice that they surround him after his recital to congratulate him and listen to more. Nabiolah ends up winning third place and is the only participants who is invited to recite Qur’an at the closing ceremony, which was attended by Egypt’s former president.

While telling the gripping stories of the three children, the documentary also keeps you anxious to know if they would win, hoping that they would. After making a mistake, Djamil’s tears start falling down his cheek. You feel his pain. He doesn’t make it to the final round but the judges honor him by having him recite at one of Egypt’s main mosques.

KORAN BY HEART, an HBO Documentary Film, tells the story of the most recent competition and follows three extraordinary 10-year-olds who go head-to-head with children nearly twice their age.

Djamil Djieng comes to Cairo from rural Senegal, unaccompanied by any family or guardians. He’s considered Senegal’s top young reciter, and his teacher tells him that he will be representing all of Africa at the competition. Djamil listens intently and sets out to live up to the high expectations.

Nabiollah Saidoff comes from rural Tajikistan, the star Koran reciter at a small rural Madrassa where students learn almost nothing but the Koran. Just before he leaves for Cairo, Nabiollah’s school is shut down by Tajikistan’s secular government as part of a crackdown against Islamic extremism. In Egypt, Nabiollah becomes one of the stars of the competition, the only contestant invited to recite for the President, while back home his father intervenes to set his son’s education back on course.

Ten-year-old Rifdha Rasheed from the Maldives is a straight-A student who is at the top of her class in every subject. She is only one of ten girls in the competition. In fact, many countries don’t allow girls to publicly recite the Koran. Rifdha is from a country that traditionally has practiced a very moderate form of Islam. However, Rifdha’s father is turning to a more conservative form of Islam and wants her to pursue a religious education in Yemen. At the same time, her mother encourages Rifdha to study science and pursue a career. As she excels in Cairo, capturing the hearts of the judges, Rifdha’s own future hangs in the balance.

Through the eyes of these young reciters, KORAN BY HEART offers a compelling and nuanced glimpse into the pressures faced by the next generation Muslims.

more on this topic

http://belajarkaedahjibril.blogspot.com/search/label/kesalahan%20baca%20al-fatihah

9. Huruf ditukar menjadi huruf

10. Sabdu ditinggalkan. Sebutan menjadi "Iyaka". Sebutan yang betul adalah "Iyyaka".

11. Sebutan huruf tidak jelas.

12. Kesalahan sama seperti nombor 10.

13. Huruf ditukar menjadi huruf

14. Tidak memuncungkan bibir. Apabila sesuatu huruf diwaqafkan berbaris hadapan, kita hendaklah memuncungkan bibir. Hukum ini dipanggil 'isymam'.

15. Menyebut "Ehdina...". Sepatutnya "Ihdina...".

16. Huruf ﺹ tidak disabdukan.

17. Huruf ditukar menjadi huruf

18. Huruf ditukar menjadi huruf . Apabila huruf berbaris bawah, sifatnya menjadi kurang tebal, bukan nipis.

19. Menukar huruf kepada huruf . Ini merupakan kesalahan yang paling biasa dilakukan. Ramai yang masih tidak dapat membezakan perbezaan huruf-huruf ini.

20. Huruf dulu, baru huruf . Ramai yang membunyikan, kemudian. Ada juga membunyikan , kemudian . Tak kurang juga ada yang membunyikan kemudian

21. Huruf ditukar menjadi huruf

22. Huruf berbaris bawah disebut "Rel", sepatutnya disebut "Ril".

23. Hurufdisebut dengan qalqalah.

24. Huruf tidak ditebalkan sebutannya.

25. Huruf ditukar menjadi huruf ﺃ

26. Huruf tidak disabdukan.

27. Apabila huruf mad bertemu dengan huruf bersabdu dalam satu kalimah, maka harakatnya wajib 6 harakat. Hukumnya adalah Mad Lazim Kalimi Musaqqal. Ramai yang melafaz kurang daripada 6 harakat

Wallahu a'lam...
